CHALLENGE: DESIGN & DESIGN ASSESSMENT
Designing from standards, whether ISO, EN etc or company documents, does not always produce the optimal cost benefit approach. As general industry trends move towards output specification, life cycle costing, risk based and best value design; there is an increasing need to better understand the environmental risks affecting the materials of construction and to understand the risks the materials and process present to the outside world.
Closer knowledge of materials risks can allow significant
capital savings; through the selection, for example,
of the optimal material grades, such as the most appropriate
stainless steel, rather than widespread construction
with the ‘Standard’ choice. CAPCIS provides
services to meet these needs with a reputation for challenging
standard practice. Our credibility is built on 30-years
experience in the design and specification of materials
for new projects and the analysis of materials failure
in diverse operating environments.
Examples are numerous and cover the range of sectors in which we work. For the rail industry we have assessed the impact of rail schemes on corrosion of site infrastructure and developed design solutions and specifications to counter the risks. For the water industry we have undertaken materials selection assessments using site investigation, corrosion monitoring and desktop study to determine the most cost efficient solutions for sewage treatment work refurbishments.
While the solutions are bespoke to the particular
challenge, the experiences and approach we bring is
common to every problem in every sector.
